Old London Phone numbers

There used to be s CD that claimed to do reverse lookup.

All that I can suggest is Google searches for REG 1464 and other possible matches/

Whitehall 1212 is now 020 7230 1212, so on that basis and assuming the same exchange is used the Whitehall number would be 020 7230 7261. I hadn't realised the constantly changing London numbers had moved from 071/081 prefixes, not lining in the area anymore. Not sure about Regent or Victoria though as they didn't have a famous number.

Our old home in the sixties had an exchange named after Rudyard Kipling (KIP) so more difficult to track.

Ian you have to be kidding even the Royal Blue Book Court Guide of 1937 is not arranged by telephone number, just alphabetical and is over 1700 pages basically covering the telephone network of central London! I was going to do an article for AR on Kelly's and similar telephone directories as they are a very useful source of info on land ownership prior to airfields being built, farms, estates, histories of city's, towns, factories, cinemas, pubs - you name it, its in a Kelly's. The archive will have around 50 of these once I can deposit them.
