Nice to see that so much survives above ground though.

I spent a week there as an officer in the RAFVR(T) in 1988 for ATC Summer Camp.
There's more than one site generically known as 'Rudloe Manor', the one shown in the photos being north of the A4 road whereas the others, mostly airmen's accomodation and married quarters, were across the road to the south of the A4.
The site north of the A4 consists of the old manor house plus officers's and Sergeants Mess accomodation.
RAF Low Flying Complaints flight operated from the manor house and they phoned me once in my capacity as focal point for UFO reports at Farnborough ATC regarding a UFO report which I had been able to explain, shortly after I had received a phone call from MOD main building about the same report.
As the Mail report says, there is a mass of underground workings below the site, but this is under the southern site, not the northern one which is about a mile away and I remember when we had a demonstration by the RAF Fire Section on the southern site, they were late and said they had been 'delayed by an incident underground' so any tunnels underneath had to be big enough for a standard RAF fire tender to enter.
The underground workings must have been quite extensive because when we visited nearby RAF Colerne, there was a copy of the airfield crash map outside the control tower and I clearly remember an annotation saying 'Entrance to Nuclear Bunker' near the runway 25 threshold.
There are of course, Navy and Army installations grouped closely together with the southerly RAF site however I think from looking at satellite photos, the RAF site south of the A4 has been covered with houses.

The Corsham Quarries complex, formely Bathsone mines, located over 3 miles to the SE was used by all three arms, Army, Navy and RAF during WW2 and has an extensive network of tunnels used then for the storage of munitions.
The Army's CAD Tunnel Quarry is just a a mile to the SE and that is the nearest to Rudloe Manor. 
The 'Burlington Bunker' was NOT on the Rudloe Manor site but in the Corsham Quarry complex'

There are five WW2 Pillboxes defending the Rudloe Manor site the only one defending the entrance is on the site perimeter located 80m south  from the main entrance gate covering the unmarked road leading from the Bath Road to the south. I doubt that in Cold War times this was used as a base for the site security. Yarnold Sangars at the entrance maybe.

In passing, I had read in a history of the Tunnel Quarry and attributed to a now deceased civilian worker that it was common practice for men to stream in to work underground via a descending metal staircase, get signed in by a watchkeeper after which many would walk through the tunnels to an exit staircase, ascend and disappear for the day!
