FAQ - Too many emails from the forum??

You probably know that by default you will receive an email notifying you of a new post in any topic you have posted in, although it is possible for each user to change this default by tuning off "Select subscription as default" in your preference

You can also choose not to recieve an email for new posts as you make a post

You probably also know that you can "Subscribe" to notifications for new posts on a topic by clicking on the Subscribe button at the top and bottom of each page of that topic

What you may not realise is that you can Subscribe to all the Topics at the second level in the forum,
ie everything below
ARG Community
Miscellaneous Research Topics
Airfield Related Infrastructure and Associated Equipment
England County Listing
Wales County Listing
Northern Ireland County Listing
Scotland County Listing
Rest of the World by Region Country

by clicking on the Subscribe button at the bottom of the page for each of those sub forums or categorys
and while this might be valid if your were particularly interested in say Scotland or Northern Ireland (You know who you are !!), you will probably get a lot of emails

Similarly you can do the same thing another level 'down', eg Subscribe to all "General DIscussion" Topics or all from Lancashire for instance (at this level at the top of the page)

I really don't know the logic around where the button is placed

Anyway you can see that this subscription system allows you to get email notification for new posts in areas you might be interested in, but also it is quite possible to inadvertently press the button when you didn't mean to.particularly on touch screen devices and particularly if there is a lag or the page update is slow

The system will notify you that you have done this by refreshing the page with a message near the top:-

Message
You have been subscribed to this topic.

but you may miss it

So now you may notice that you are getting more emails than you expected and it may be getting irritating

You may be able to see a common factor in the source of the notifications, eg all from one county

You can see which topics you have subscribed to in your preference, under "Subscriptions"

Also you can see when you have subscribed to a forum, sub forum or topic because the button (where ever it might be) now says Unsubscribe

And the fix is to click on the "Unsubscribe " button
