I'm a retired ATCO having worked at Farnborough for 34 years before retiring in Nov 2008 and since then I have been working as a FISO at Fairoaks.
Also have a PPL but got my first flying with the ATC, being a staff cadet at 613 GS Halton for several years.
I have a strange fascination with 'old' airfields, probably stemming mainly from living at RAF Lindholme during my ATCO training thus allowing me to explore the airfields of Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire on my days off. I was also based at Sumburgh in the Shetlands for 4 weeks giving me the opportunity to visit places like Unst and Foula.

You say that you 'have a strange fascination with old airfields' Welcome to the club! However, you will see from the Index that almost anything related to WW2 airfields is covered and, no doubt, you will be able to contribute your knowledge of ATC and Comms especially related to Farnborough, an airfield with a long and rich history.
Yes I'm glad to be able to share my knowledge and reminiscences with everyone.
I've already contributed in Hampshire Airfields, Buckinghamshire Airfields (I lived in Chesham) and Surrey Airfields (where I live now) plus one of two others like Bovingdon.
I did a lot of gliding at Halton in the late '60s and a lot of microlight flying there in the '90s.
I'm also contributing to Dick Flute's website www.ukairfieldguide.net , where I've made an attempt to 'investigate' Pyrford airfield near Wisley.
