Hi folks,
I've just joined as a proper member after recent retirement.
I spent 21 years at Warton on Jaguar, Tornado and Hawk, followed by another 21 running my own defence training/consultancy in project and lifecycle management of high value defence programmes.
Having got hold of dad's Service Records, the plan is to fly what he flew, where he flew it, on the X-Plane Flight Sim.
Caron, 33EFTS is now complete and available as a free download on the XP Forum. It took the best part of a year and c1500hrs. I collaborated with Dr Joel From who wrote Caron's bio 'In Plain Site' so the model is accurate to the nearest foot. Just dial in your weather, time of day, pick an aircraft and off you go. A video is almost complete to tell its story and I'l post a link when it's finished to tell the story of BCATP and the 130,000 airmen who came out of the world's most successful flying training programme. See attached for couple of images.
Next on the agenda is Little Staughton, where dad arrived late to the party in Sept 1945 as a Lanc Sgt Pilot with 582 PFF. The aim is to create the most accurate (and flyable) replica of LS at that date.
This is why I signed up the ARG. I already have the airfield plans, aerial photos and many images I took myself last year. I emailed Richard Flagg last year and he sent me his images, really helpful. Where I need help is linking the building types on the plan to the most accurate plans and photos available - some are still standing, some may need near neighbour comparison, so the support from the group's knowledge for this project would be greatly appreciated. A particular question relates to the look of the buildings - colours, textures, grunge etc.
The payback will be - I hope - a properly authentic replica of a Bomber Command airbase. XPlane creates almost photo-realistic results so the possibilities are endless for application.
I'm very much the new boy here on his first day at school so don't know where or how to start.
Any and all advice would be much appreciated and I promise to keep the ARG posted on developments.
kindest regards
Neil
