Hello, I am interested in research into the Airfields that my mother served during her service during WWII at Station Hospital 136. She was an US Army Nurse and took care of the sick and wounded from many airfields in this area. She was told 16 airfields were all around her hospital. Bury St Edmonds, Levenham, Raydon are three that she remembers. My father was stationed at Raydon as an airplane mechanic. Looking forward to reading about this airfield. I am her daughter, She is age 93.
Yes, there were many USAAF airfields located around your mother's hospital during WW2. I am heartened to read that she is still with us and has an active memory. Any anecdotes from her service days would be welcome on the forum. You will find a breakdown of all the airfields of Suffolk and Norfolk in the sub-forum menu

Thank you for your reply. She has written her testimony on another site but more info about her nursing the"flyboys" keeps coming out when we talk. Her mind is completely sharp but her hearing is horrible so I will write down some questions for her. I have her memorbilia and there are some interesting things about different pilots and crew members. I also have a photo of my father at Raydon sitting outside Nissen huts with a sign that reads 378 service squadron. I dont know much about his time in the service. I will attempt to write some things down and share them in the forums. Thank you for this site and your work!!
Kindest Regards,
Cynde

It would be great if you could post up that picture, and any others that you may have - I have lived in the village of Raydon nearly all my life - still visit the old airfield often, and it would be fun to see if that same building is still there and I could post up a comparison picture if you like.
