Ello!

Well I've lived and worked near Mildenhall and Lakenheath airfields most of my adult life so it's no surprise that I've developed an interest over the years, it was the F111 and the Blackbird that I liked to see in the air most and I was lucky enough to be working next to Mildenhall base when the last SR71 left and gave a little mini low-flying display before disappearing for good.. was 1990 I think.

My late Father was an airframe fitter for the RAF during toward the end of, and after the war (inc a long spell at Biggin Hill) and had plenty of great stories to tell me of things going 'not quite right' in his inimitable anti-hero manner, he also imparted to me lots of useful rude phrases to use in testing circumstances and several politically incorrect songs.. for these I thank him!

Anyway apart from precious time with my kids I enjoy rc cars, off-roading (in or on anything with an engine), and playing guitar. I also have a keen interest in wartime buildings and will soon be renovating a property (adjacent to Mildenhall airfield) part of which seems to have been a wartime barrack hut so I've joined AIX to learn much more and ask lots of questions.. don't say you weren't warned!

Can't think of anything else relevant so I'll stop rabbiting.

Hi, identify the type of hut it was you mean or it's exact location..?

There's a good bit of info on the forum already but please feel free to ask anything you want, no doubt someone on here will be able to help.

The renovation project sounds interesting too, good luck with that.

All I know so far is that it's on the 1945 Google Earth shot, you can see the shine on the roof and the path leading to the central door (I overlaid a 2008 version to check), firstly I want to find out what it was and who used it, then eventually try to trace a period photograph of it. When I get time I will fully document the building and post in the relevant section.
