New Member In East Yorkshire region

Hi All

I am based near Hull but I am not from here, as my handle suggests I am from that far off land off Wales

My interest concerning airfields is RAF Riccall where my late uncle was stationed twice, once in 42/43 when he became air crew and crewed up on the Halifax and later in 46 when he returned as an Flight Engineer Instructor.

I am also interested in RAF Tarrant Rushton where he was in 44/45 and also an instructor but also carried out ops as part of the COs crew and took part in operation Varsity.

I have all my uncles operations records (I think ) from the TNA and for his time with RAAF. I think I looked at the RAF Riccall station log while I was in the TNA but to be honest I am not sure now as I was doing work on the Middle East on that visit. I am pretty sure he did no ops while at Riccall just final training and crewing up ready for the Middle East, though I always happy to be proved wrong

Riccall was a satellite to Marston Moor - itself a training airfield

Riccall was mainly home to 1658 HCU (Halifax) which formed in October 1942 by merging 10, 76 and 78 Squadron Conversion Fights....although there were MUs and a couple of other units based there during its operational life
