Cambridgeshire newby! was created by Fenboy
Though a bit old to be a new anything. Joined following a link researching a WW1 airfield in Little Downham, about which no-one seems to know anything. Also involved in building a website for the RAF Witchford collection of memorabillia - rafwitchfordand mepal.moonfruit.com.
Delighted to hear from any local aerophiles.
Update - The website is now functional, though by no means complete, and is
www.rafwitchfordandmepal.co.uk
and currently documents the drumhead memorial service on Remembrance Sunday.

Awesome, welcome aboard Fenboy. It's always great to hear of places near where I grew up. I was on the edge of the fens at Somersham.

Looking forward to lots of Witchford and Downham posts.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Don't expect to be posting much - in the words of the song, 'Don't get around much anymore', but I am heavily involved with the RAF Witchford Collection at the moment. Great for WW2 bomber command studies.

You will find many really knowledgeable and helpful people here.

What you know is as important as what you do , so contribution to threads from first hand knowledge and experience is as important as digging around muddy airfields. There is something for everyone on this forum.

Hello,
I just joined myself. I was on a ghost walk last year in Peterborough, and the guide told us about an RAF base here. I couldn't recall its name but finally discovered RAF Westwood. It was a new pilot training base. Most of its gone now, underneath Bretton. I did find the officers mess, and an old HQ building. Got some pix so I'll post em now. Im trying to see if there is a way to overlay the old aerial pictures onto Google maps. Its kind of difficult tracing the places out in a city. Well, just tried for 40 minutes to upload fotos and got upload failed for most of it. aint technology wonderful......
