Can any one help with the date that the two yucca(?) plants were planted one each side of the memorial in tubs and by who? I think that they were placed there by members of 455 and 489 Sqns as a final visit memorial to their colleagues but would like confirmation.
The Rowan trees were planted 8th Nov 1998 by 144 Sqn members for similar reasons.
Thank you
Chris
There is a plaque about there being an exhibition in the Folk Museum, you could try and contact them and see if they know. Similarly the museum at Dalcross.
Thanks for the info, yes I know about the Museum and I am on the committe there, unfortunately I have found nothing there and other members with much longer memories than me also unsure. I amalso involved in maintaining and improving the memorial with Lennox Community Council, so far repainted fence and general tidy up, repointing of main memorial, new plants planted and existing yuccas given TLC. Hopefully a bench to enjoy the view coming shortly. More to come with time and money and covid allowing.
Currently there are 3 services a year held there ANZAC day nearest Sunday 25th April, Canada Day 1st July and Rememberance Day nearest Sunday to 11th Nov.
Second go at replying, not sure why last attempt didnt work - something todo with the captcha not working?
Thank you Martin.
Sorry I should of said that I work at the museum and had been through their archives and asked other members but no one had any more information but thanks for the reference - very good display at the museum and worth a look if passing, currently only open 1400 to 1600 Fri to Sun.
I am also part of a group of Lennox Community Council which looks after the memorial, so far we have repainted the fence and a general tidy up, got funding to repoint the main memorial - carried out last year, two new plants courtesy of Christies of Fochabers, a bench will soon be arriving and other improvements over the coming months as funding and covid allow.
There are normally three services at the memorial each year ANZAC day nearest Sunday 25th April, Canada Day 1st July and Rememberance Day nearest Sunday 11th Nov each supported by RAF Lossiemouth.
Thanks again
Chris
