UPPER SAXONDALE - RAF Bomber Crash

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, certainly a search on AiX shows nothing:

'A RAF bomber crashed close to Upper Saxondale during WW2. The site is marked by 5 mature trees set out in the shape of a cross in the middle of a field close to the main Saxondale Drive. The impact made a slight hollow and piles of earth are still clearly visible. The site was originally marked with a memorial stone, although this has now been removed.'

I was wandering if this is the location:

Not one I have heard of unless it is referenced by a different name. RAF Newton to the north.

I wonder what happened to the memorial stone?? Where did it go and why was it removed??

News of a memorial is new to me. My records are in the loft ATM, but my 'puter records a 49 Sqn Anson I N5096 crashing at Saxondale on 04 Oct 1939. Alas, I can't yet give names, but the CWGC list nine RAF deaths for that day.
I have other incidents listed close by, Masters/Magisters in the Ratcliffe area, Wellingtons "crashed after T/O Newton" etc. but only the above by specific Saxondale name. R on T has expanded, the golf course nearby must have altered over the decades and the local hospital and grounds have been redeveloped, so I can understand any memorial being cleared. I wonder if anyone has copies of 49 Sqn's ORB?

IS there a link to the cross of trees on flash earth, the one Noel put up goes to Seething in Norfolk!

ORB states that it "crashed in the grounds of the mental hospital Radcliffe"
P/O BLG Harker 40620 and AC2 FL McGurk 566733 Killed.
I think the trees have long gone. Maybe Aerofilms, or similar, might display a photo of the building one day.

I took a look on Where's the path, Old 25K. Dragging the little yellow man onto the satellite map gives a clear view of 5 trees.
