VC Heroes graves and memorials throughout the UK

I often wander through Coventrys London Road cemetry and noticed this grave yesterday from googling i find he was the son of a Crimean Veteran but little else. It is good to see that some of the commonwealth stones have been recently replaced or cleaned.

I had a look on Wiki, he won his VC in the Boer war. And he was one of those VC winners that were selected by ballot.

This plaque is by the main war memorial at Burton On Trent

As the plaque says he was the most decorated soldier of the first world war, maybe the most decorated ever? He never fired a shot in anger. And I have heard that when he was coming back to Burton after the ward of his VC was announced the guard on the train told him there was quiet a welcome waiting for him at the station. He got off at the stop before and walked home!

And William Coltman was a member of the Plymouth Bretheren , that possibly explains why he was a stretcher bearer.

Guy Gibson's Victoria Cross to go on display in Lincoln

A Victoria Cross awarded to Wing Cdr Guy Gibson - who led the famous Dambusters raid during World War II - is going on public display for the first time in almost 30 years.
Wing Cdr Gibson was awarded the VC for his part in the 1943 raid on Germany in which he commanded 617 Squadron.
It will go on display at The Collection Museum in Lincoln.
