We were taught at School that Harry Ferguson had been the first Irishman to build and fly his own plane in December 1909 and that A V Roe had been the first Englishman to build and fly his own plane in June 1908.
Does anyone know if there were any applicable firsts for Wales & Scotland ?
I believe that there is a monument to Harry Ferguson in Ireland but not to sure if there is one for A V Roe.
Growing up in a farming community we were all familiar with the tractor however during a trip to the USA during the 1980's or 1990's found out that the AMC Eagle Estate car had been fitted with the Ferguson Four Wheel Drive system while our rented Sport-About estate had been called Concord with two wheel drive.
( It was a Rambler Hornet during the first visit in the 1970's )
