My first trip to the museum unfortunately the Goxhill tower was not open, they are hoping to get it ready for their first airshow of the season. A really good museum with some first rate volunteers.

On our visit to the eastern USA last year we had planned to visit this museum but then had reason to change the plan. At least it was a good reason - we got invited to go flying in a lovely old Stearman instead

They had a Stearman, I do not seem to have a shot of it though! Anyway a few more

We are planning to paint the units to blend in more with the building. The tower was open to the public until this COVID-19 came around and we had to close down for awhile. We are now open, but because of the COVID-19, we are not doing tours of the far end building, Goxhill, World War I hangar, Fighter Factory, and the Cottbus Luftwaffe hangar.
So, in the process of outfitting the tower we were contacted by a gentleman that was stationed at Thurleigh, who supplied lots of information to us, however, he left a question.

This is from one of my fellow volunteers about this gentleman;
"Our friend, Bill Carlile who was the Flying Control Officer at Thurleigh from 42-45 was in the first class of USAAF designated controller trainees sent in 1942 to train with the RAF in Air Traffic/Control Tower procedures.
He cannot remember where it was or at what RAF base. Can you (me) please ask around next time you're on the ARG site to see if anyone has any thoughts on where that training was done?"
Any thoughts?
In the mean time here are some pictures of the tower, because Goxhill was the first base turned over to the USAAF in England, the ground floor is 8th Air Force and the 1st floor is RAF. Looks like the files are too big, tried, but no go. However the Goxhill phone is original!
