I understand the digitised files are available free and on-line.

They are available immediately online, but not for free, cost about £3 - 4 I seem to recall. It's a great service and have ended up finding information this way which I couldn't find through their search function.

Yes, the squadron records are great for finding information relating to a known time period, usually a single month during wartime but if you are looking into pre-war you can get two decades for the same price in some cases. Looking at a Squadron history would be quite expensive!

Some of the CAB files are available free but obviously only useful for overviews although some include reports but these are not obvious until you actually download them.

Sadly my visit today had to be postponed :(

Presumably these have been digitised and backedup to other media already?

I would hope so but haven't checked.

Well lets hope if they are that there is a program to make sure that digital obsolescence is covered :(

Wonder how long before these turn up on eBay?

If any one is going to the National Archives and is able to photograph the following for me during their visit I'd be very grateful.

ADM 358/2247 - Temporary Lieutenant JB Smyth, RNVR: report of death in an air raid.

HO 192/923 - Falmouth 29/30 May 1944 Air Raid Damage.

Any assistance much appreciated.

I was all set to visit TNA on Saturday (23/08/2014) and filled in the pre-order form but on submission it said it was closed due Bank Holiday weekend! I'd didn't even realise is was this weekend. The planets don't align for a number of weeks now so it may be October before I get another chance to go. Annoyingly, Monday is the only day I can manage most weeks at present but they are closed on Monday. Still mustn't grumble as Saturday is a far better day to travel. No commuters.
