It might have gone un-noticed by some but next year the Royal Air Force celebrates it's Centenary , 1918 - 2018 , on the 1st April . All Fools Day !
In advance of this historic event a website has been launched and will feature both local and national events to mark the occasion such as the already mentioned 'Lincolnshire ; Bastion in the air . See link here ; www.raf.mod.uk/raf100/ .
There is a 'What's On' section on the website with many events already planned and an interactive map allows you find find events in your local area with others being added on a regular basis .

I started this thread last October and ended my first post with those immortal words 'One to bookmark !' which of course I didn't so it's thanks to netcompsys for making this a sticky in the hope that the thread attracts notices of more RAF Centenary events before they actually happen rather than post them up after they have !
RAF 100 : Through Adversity to the Stars
Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 May , an exhibition of RAF memorabilia hosted by ex-RAF personnel
Tuesday 29 May , a talk by Stan Howes entitled Goosepool : The History of RAF and RCAF Middleton St George
Tuesday 19 June to Sunday 16 September , an exhibition to celebrate the life of local people during their service in the RAF including 608 Squadron at RAF Thornaby
All of the above are being held at Preston Park Museum and Grounds in Eaglescliffe ; www.prestonparkmuseum.co.uk/events/single-event/?event=2275 .
A parade and service at Durham Cathedral , Freedom of the City of Durham to 607 (County Of Durham) Squadron RAuxAF and the naming of a RAF100 train "Spirit of The Royal Air Force" .

Senior members of the royal family, dignitaries and veterans gather at Westminster Abbey for a service to celebrate one hundred years of aviation and endeavour. Events continue on The Mall and at Buckingham Palace, where over a thousand servicemen and women from across the RAF take part in a magnificent parade. A spectacular flypast ends the celebrations to wish the RAF a very special happy birthday.
