Ancestry free access

There is free access to Ancestry UK records over the weekend.

You need to have free account registered.

There are some military records there and one thing I often find useful is the Telephone Directories though the search system only find names so you have go to a particular area and date then through the pages (not as it sounds!).

You have to start with a search on a name but once though that you get



At the top, Search "School, Directories etc" gets you telephone directories. I have found these very useful over the years for tracking down military sites, factories etc. The search system is geared up for looking for people so you have to do it the hard way. Select year, area and then plough through the pages just as you would with the real directory! Unfortunately several areas are bound together but easy to get to the right part.

As I mentioned before there are other military items.

Ancestry and FOLD3 are available free again over the weekend, it says Commonwealth records but there is often more available than just that.

Find My Past is also giving free access to military records this weekend.

Ancestry is free this weekend, until Monday night.
