I normally just double click on the kmz file and it just opens in Google Earth. However the file may not be pre-ticked so you may have to tick the check box in the "Places" list on the side menu on the left.It may be under the "Temporary Places" bit and called "Extended Defence of Brtian".
Move it to "My Places" if you want it there every time you open Google Earth.
If you haven't got the side menu then click on the "Show sidebar" button on the main menu bar. If the main menu bar is missing then it should be under the "View" menu. If all your menus are missing, which happened to me once, then I don't know how you get them back!
I don't know what happens in Google Maps (runs in Browsers) as I rarely use it

I've pinched this from a F******k group and it gives the DoB locations in a map form and is much easier to use than the KML/Z files on Google Earth , well for me at least ! edob.mattaldred.com/map/ .
