Has anyone heard of, or read the book about Colin Hodgkinson. A brave legless Spitfire pilot who like Bader was taken prisoner by the Germans. It's a small 267 page soft-back, no photographs though, that was first published in 1957.again in 1978 by Corgi. I'm just re-reading it for the second time in 31 years [thats made me feel old !!] It's an excellent read, what that young man went through to fly a Spitfire in the war.

I thought there were a few legless pilots by the end of WW2 or were there only two with both legs absent?

Wasn't sure about scanning the book with the cover open an inch or so, Think it's ok !! In 1978, 85p was a lot. Almost a quid !!!

Pretty sure there were only the 2.
But Hodgkinson did really well because he was a trainee pilot when he lost his legs, therefore he had to overcome his disability to learn to fly, astounding story.
