I have a confession to make, I recently paid annual membership. I was repeatedly offered to me at a fee per month coming to circa £60 pa which I ignored. I was then offered it at half price (less than £30).
It has world wide coverage and links to many PhD dissertations, which you can download without joining.
The advantage of joining is that you can bulk download all related links which gives surprising prompts and they are all downloaded ready for saving or alternately you can build a library.
It is a bit of a shotgun but rewarding, I would recommend it
There seem to be a load of similar academic based sites, most subscription based but all seem to be offering the same documents that I am searching for. I wonder if they are all windows into the same source or perhaps none are exclusive.
I have not joined these because there is a danger you may have to join loads to get access to all the documents of interest. It is the same logic that I apply to things like Netflix which my daughter joined for a few years but I found it only had a bout one of the two dozen films I wanted to use them for.
No Amount Of Evidence Will Ever Persuade An Idiot (probably not Mark Twain)
I can assure you she does not allow me to spend her money easily
Over recent years I have noticed that many of my more adventurous searches have pointed me to Academia and I do like the linkages given but readily agree it is not perfect.
Still, for less than £30 for a year of full access at my age is probably on a par with Leicester City winning the Premiership.
I have a feeling that some online services available through public library membership, give access to searches of academic papers.
I get annoyed with the way that Academia keep telling me they have thousands of references to my name when all they seem to do is search for the name complete with initials so show matches to the initials.
