Looks like you have to register first or use Ancestory. I assume the the latter would allow access for free anyway as part of the Ancestory membership, although these things are never clear?

I think it is like free periods on Ancestry, you have to register but registration is free. I found I had a registration on NEWSPAPERS.COM from long ago.

How does it compare with the British Newspaper archive which is based on the British library.

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

The BNA has mainly British and Irish newspapers (as well as a few Indian ones).

newspapers.com, being owned by Ancestry has mainly American ones (USA and Canada). They have lots of local American and Canadian) newspapers. They also have a few older British one.

They have some Australian ones (NSW and Victoria) but never looked at them because free on TROVE.

There is about eight years of the (Panama) Canal Record.

Rather worrying news about TROVE

Subject: TROVE and Australian NATIONAL ARCHIVES treasures in danger as Funding runs out 2023To: <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.> Hello I have been a member of NZSG for more than 30 years now, as three sides of my family were in NZ in 1800s and I still have many cousins there. However, as an Aussie, I also greatly value OUR NEWSPAPER (etc, etc) COLLECTIONS from the Australian National Archives. Would you please advise the members  – where-ever we live of the 'pending' financial problems that might mean that these may not be available after July 2023 when the current Government Funding runs out. Please encourage members to do what ever they can to tell politicians and others that people around the world, LOVE AND VALUE TROVE and these other Australian National Treasures and don't want the funding to be stopped. I found this excellent article and copy of the email to the relevant minister at Outback History today and Moya's impassioned plea to the government to SAVE TROVE:  www.outbackfamilyhistoryblog.com/you-can-help-to-save-trove/  You can help to save TROVE !! Would you please also let all members know of this, as I am sure many of them LOVE TROVE and use it all the time.  www.alia.org.au/Web/News/Articles/2023/1...ak_up_for_Trove.aspx  This has many good suggestions, including writing about "Treasures you have found on TROVE' THERE IS ALSO A PETITION >>I have already signed the PETITION www.change.org/p/fully-fund-trove which has reached over 25,000 signatures as at 3pm on Sunday 2nd January.     Now the next target is35,000 signatures Thanking you in anticipation

I fully expect a lot of stuff to disappear offline due to funding problems.
