National Library of Scotland was created by Richard Austen
Of late, I have to admit to using this facility lots more times than usual to look at the map series 1938-1951,
A message has just popped up "Maximum tile requests made for this month".
I have not received this note before - does this mean that I now need to pay for the service in future, or, have I just been plain lucky?

I have used it a lot too but I have not come across this limitation. I wonder if this is a Covid measure to prevent server overload. I have not seen any mention of charging for heavy use so I think it may be just a temporary brake on use.

I have just tried the service on another computer in my household, my laptop, and it has returned the identical message.
I'm certainly no expert when it comes to matters relating to Routers, IPs (or ISPs, who knows), but, would I be correct in thinking that NLS' server recognises my details from all computers and tablets in my domain and refuses to oblige?

Oh dear, oh dear ol' flippin' dear, it's not the NLS website at all causing the problem - it's the Old-Maps site from which I'm getting the "tiles" message mentioned above. Enfeebled brain now engaged.
So, please, as you were....
I'd appreciate it if anyone can steer me in the right direction with an answer.

Most computer systems have their off days. One of the IWM servers is not connecting this weekend.

Are you a subscriber to Old-Maps? If so, you are not alone with this on their website. I did encounter it a while ago and I think there was something about it in an email from them, but this was some years ago. As a paying customer I was a bit annoyed, but then I was giving it a pretty heavy thumping at the time, looking for range remains.
At an annual subscription of £120 per annum and my use confined to occasional it is a prime contender for cancellation and hoping that the free to view zoom levels are sufficient.
Many years ago I did have an account with Promap but this was invoiced on purchase and before Old-Maps and GE 1945 layers became available. That certainly had a tile limit.

The Old Maps website monitors your use. If it exceeds a set limit it cuts you off until the following month. Although irritating it's intended prevent hogging and give other users a share.

Just noticed this on the NLS website
We have put online 2,430 detailed maps at scales of 1:1,250 to 1:10,560 which were published in 1970, and have therefore just come out-of-copyright from 1 January 2021.
