This is a recent book Stackpole Books USA, 418 pages plus 16 pages of photos available in the UK for £18.99 from Cliff Bishop. This is not a 352nd rehash it tells the lifes of American WW2 pilots as lived in combat and life at Bodney. Great attention to detail and some eye-openers read pages 282-3. Well worth the money for the many facets of that era. There is a picture of the control tower showing the damage after a P-51 collided with it on D-Day.

For some odd reason, it was reported in many accounts that the P-51 had collided with the original 15898/40 watch office on the western side of the airfield; possibly because it was subsequently demolished and folk put two and two together. As T-21 observes, it was the new 343/43 watch office on the higher, eastern side of the airfield that was hit, fortunately a day or so before it was due to be occupied. I've never understood why the 15898/40 was sited where it was; on the lower side of the flying field and with a long line of mature trees blocking the view of anything approaching from the west.:confused:
