l[h=1]Colour aerial photographs of Scottish beaches released[/h]A collection of 8,283 oblique aerial photographs taken during an aerial survey of beaches in Scotland has been released on the NCAP website. The images were taken by Edinburgh Air Centre Ltd, over 7 consecutive weekends from July to September 2003.

RCAHMS have released these, not complete coverage but some interesting things

Is that some sort of target in bottom left?

Pity they did not cover any more of this brilliant set of beach defences.

Quite a good coverage but as with all these things manages to avoid all the areas I am really interested in (e.g. Sinclairs Bay and Carse Bay quadrant shelters). The survey doesn't tend to venture too much inland and some are just pure beach. The Tentsmuir ones give a reasonable view of the extant range buildings and being oblique give a better idea of the context. Not sure about the platform as I thought it was fairly modern. A strange location for it and it doesn't seem to tie in with anything around it. I did come across mention of a bombing range called Kinshaldy, presumably south of the Tentsmuir ranges but I have not seen any evidence to support a range there although the area was pretty big and may have been prior to Leuchars runway extensions.

No Amount Of Evidence Will Ever Persuade An Idiot (probably not Mark Twain)
