Gentlemen can anybody tell me where I can find aerial photographs of RAF stations from WW2 or early post war? Would be useful if these were in the TNA and could be used for publication at a realistic fee.? On a side subject anybody know sources of WW2 aircraft or station photographs apart from the IWM, sadly WW2 photos are thin on the ground on ebay? My object of these enquirers is Hartford Bridge/ Blackbushe or which WW2 photos seem to be non existent

You need the National Monument Record office at English Heritage.

google earth adding 2300 more localtions in ww2 format later in 2014 so keep an eye on that

Some are kept at TNA as well, definitely worth enquiring as English Heritage prices are eye watering to my mind.
For EH pictures you can ring or email them and see what coverage the have for the airfields you require, over the various years.

EH will do a search for you if you give them a grid ref & subject, they have a huge collection but as MM said it can be expensive.

Also worth checking out the 'Britain From Above' archive, which seems to extremely reasonable in its costs and use policy, and the Imperial War Museum has some coverage.
There's also the Welsh and Scottish versions of the EH archive, personal experience of the Welsh archives has been nothing short of fantastic.
All these archives are described well in other threads, worth reading up on them.

Farnboroughrob - I recently looked at two sets of plans and aerials at TNA, AIR 20/7585 & 6 and they did cover the majority of airfields and all with wartime or just after aerial views. I will check to see if Blackbushe is in there as I photographed the volumes, badly, due to bad light and glossy coverings. The volumes were three to each TNA reference and were large. There was another AIR 20/6216 the carried an odd assortment, possibly linked to airborne forces exercises, again I will check for Blackbushe.
I believe if you want to use your own photos of any TNA document the licence is £15 per photo but from my experience I would suggest you get a proper scan and pay the additional £15 for publication rights.
Just checked the photos I have and it looks like AIR 20/6216 has a photo of Blackbushe dated somewhere between 1942 and 1944 going by other photos that have dates.

Thanks for the info guys I will have to try EH. I did find a basic photo at TNA at the weekend in the WW2 version of the modern pilots guide. I will be going to TNA in a few weeks and will look your suggestion PNK.
