I realise this might not, strictly, be "airfields" but it is very germane to their use and I'm hoping some of the armourers who read this site will be able to help.
I have a loss card of a Lancaster. The bomb load is shown as follows [ it is shown exactly as written]
1 Y 400 HC 75BC
[150 X 4] 25BC
[12 X 30] 25BC
[16 X 30] 15BC
[8 X 30]
I suspect that the first line should be 1 X 4000 HC [ high capacity?] but what does the 75BC mean?
I wonder if BC means bomb containers but how do the figures in brackets relate to them. I think there were 25 and 30lb incendiaries carried in bomb containers - weren't those usually referred to as SBC's [small bomb containers]?

Could the 5 be the S?

Correct, High Capacity (there was a Medium Capacity version) and known as Blockbusters or Cookies, but I didn't think that they could be used in containers, certainly not in seven of them!.
I agree that '5BC' is most likely SBC for Small Bomb Container, so the second line would refer to 150 4Ib incenderies packed into 2 SBCs (giving a total of 300 4Ib incenderies), then 12 30Ib incenderies in 2 SBCs etc.
One Cookie and a multitude of incenderies is a typical combined load.

You are probably reading the typing correctly, but the typist may have misinerpreted the info in front of them, I wonder if the '7 SBC' after 400HC sould be after [8 x 30]?

It does appear to be written half a line out, but the contents are the most common Bomber Command standard Lancaster bombload, oddly enough codenamed the "Usual" load.

1 x 4000lb Cookie and 12 x SBCs containing 4lb or 30lb incendiaries.

Thus:
1 4000lb HC
7 SBC [each containing 150 x 4lb incendiaries]
2 SBC [each containing 12 X 30lb incendiaries]
2 SBC [each containing 16 X 30lb incendiaries]
1 SBC [containing 8 X 30lb incendiaries]

Of course, that makes sense. 7 containers of 150 4Ib incenderies makes 1050 4Ibs incenderies, a standard load.

Thank you all - that's much appreciated.
The loss card [ a photocopy of course] is handwritten not typed. The writing is quite good but, looking at it again, what I took as a 5 is an S. The Y is a hastily written X. The 400 for 4000 is less explicable - presumably just carelessness.
Just for interest - the card is for ND565 of 44sqd. Dunholme Lodge. Lost on a Berlin raid 24/25 3 44 - an uncle of mine was the pilot.
