UK Flying Sites Website

Dick Flute, author and former trucker, has put up a new website:

I see the other Airfield Research Group (with their own "Airfield Review") are linked through from there.

I note a comment on that website which I find rather offensive!

"But what to do about Northern Ireland? Frankly I still don’t have an answer. It probably isn’t a good answer, but within the constraints of producing a Guide to British flying sites, I decided to mark the fact that in many peoples opinion this area still isn’t a legitimate part of the United Kingdom by ignoring the Counties and treating the area as a whole instead. In this way it marks it out as being very separate from the rest of the UK which I think is both deserved and sensible? It is only a token gesture of course but it does have the benefit of graphically illustrating that this province of the UK should be generally regarded as being totally different or seperate."

I will be advising this person that the "United Kingdom" is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".

Very disappointing.

You're absolutly right, what an ignorant statement! On this basis I assume the same applies to Scotland and Wales?

I can't find any liks on the site.

Can't say I find it easy to navigate and there are quite a number of mistakes on it. I think his opinion on Northern Ireland is just plain ignorant and it shows very poor judgement on the part of the author of the site.

I don't find the site easy to use, it's very jumbled.

However it is a huge task to list all known flying sites in England, Scotland and Wales, I just hope he comes to his senses and realises the Northern Ireland is very much a part of the UK.

Understand the feelings expressed, but its the internet. Often there are views expressed even on AiX with which I disagree myself, but you might argue that >55,000 people from Bomber Command died so that anyone can let it all hang out on the internet.

Now you know the bloke's views just don't worry about it and don't go there again.

I emailed this individual regarding his comments and am still waiting for any reply.

Needless to say I will not be visiting his site again.
