Can anyone identify this please. I think the aircraft is an Avro Ashton and it was taken at Hatfield. Edit the aircraft might also be a Short Sperin but I think its more likely to be the Ashton and I am thinking it might be a camera pod,
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

It looks to be pointing to the fuselage, assuming the photo hasn't been doctored. I wonder it is pointing to an engine on test?

I dont think it's an Ashton as all their tail numbers began with WB with one starting WE. That looks like a port wing (assuming image not mirrored) so the markings you can see in the picture would be the top part of those letters.

A good bit of detective work so far.

Could it possibly be a sampling pod modified from drop tanks, it does look as if the 2 nozzles are pointing into the airflow ?

Need to do some digging, but perhaps the trials aircraft for the AS30 missile or perhaps watching stores carriage and release from the inboard pylon.
