What is this Aircraft?

Yes its the Ministry of Supply Brigand from Boscombe Down used for the dropping trials of the Valiant RATO application, using a ballasted super sprite nacelle

This version of the nacelle is the original one with a long pointed nose, that was designed to fit below the fuselage, the pointed nose having a steel button that pressed against a hemispherical socket in the fuselage, subsequent operational RATOs were wing-mounted. This pic was taken 1952 / 53 while the OP was taken in 1955.

Well that explains the odd pointy shadow in the original pic. That did confuse me and didn't make it 100% certain it was a Brigand.

No photo I'm afraid, only a description of an aircraft that clattered over our house this morning.

Large high wing monoplane with supporting struts.
Single radial engine (sounded meaty!)
Twin finned but fins looked small - couldn't see a central fin as it was too low
Undercarriage was fixed and spindly but not booted.
Colour looked to be dull brown but as it was a bright clear sky it was more like a silhoette.
Nearest airfield is Biggin Hill.
I have heard it before but only seen it in the distance.

Any ideas?
