Structure within Anti-Aircraft Position

Folks,

Here are some pictures of an Anti-Aircraft Gun Position near Larne.

I am particularly interested in the last 2 photographs - This is a reinforced concrete Pillar approx 6 feet tall with a hollow centre. You can see metal bolts on either end.
There were 4 Gun Pits however this appears to have been in one of them.

There is a Radar Platform in the next field and the red bricked building between the Guns and Radar Platform has 2 large concrete plinths which look as if they have been used to hold 2 Electricity Generators the same as i have seen in Decoy sites.

Does anyone know what this Concrete pillar would have been used in connection with??

I wonder if it was something to do with the radar mat?

I think that you forgot to post pics of the pillar Andy.

Anyway, it was probably to mount a Kine Theodolite for viewing shell bursts and used to check accuracy of the Predictor Unit.

That Larne HAA site was built 1943 and although there is a radar ramp in the adjacent field it may have been added later.

Hi,
I should have explained that the pillar has been toppled and is shown on it's side in the last 2 photographs.

That certainly looks like the answer.

Much appreciated.

Shows where even quite a crude sketch (mine are very crude!) with some dimensions can make it much easier to understand images especially if, as I do, you try to get the images on an official website or record where they might be still be seen long after we are all gone and the site has been bulldozed!

I thought they might be of the pillar but couldn't see any fixing studs.

EDIT

I have nearly finished reading General Pile's book "Ack Ack". It is very readable and explains a lot about AA Command in WWII.

I've just ordered a copy. Thanks

Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite
