Without bothering to check, I'd guess at Dunsfold. Poss maybe Hartford Bridge as I think Mitchell's were stationed there too.

Mitchell FL684 only ever served with 180 Sqn. (Coded EV). It survived the war. Mitchell's served on 180 from Sept 42 to Sept 45, so the airfield could be, in order: West Raynham, Sept 42 to Oct 42, Foulsham, Oct 42 to Aug 43, Dunsfold, Aug 43 to Oct 44, (with detachments to Aston Down & Swanton Morley) Brussels/Melsbroek (Belgium), Oct 44 to Sept 45, Achmer (Germany) Apr 45 to Jan 46. Complex huh.
If you run through "Flight's" issues (on pdf) and pin down the issue, it, or similar images were displayed, you might be able to zone it down a little.

111 OTU was Bahama based. 13 OTU moved around a bit, Finmere, Turweston, Harwell, Hampton Norris etc. Coded used: AT, EV,FV,KQ, OY, SL, UR, WO, XD and XJ.

Although the countryside looks like UK, look at the shadows under the aircraft; they indicate the sun is almost exactly overhead so I would say much further south, possibly south of France or Italy.

The people shadows look a lot longer though.

The area still looks like Dunsfold and I suspect there is a whole batch of similar photos from that shoot but the trouble is FlightGlobal have never replied to any of my emails so I suspect it would be a waste of time asking if they have any other frames. It might be worth looking on the IWM photo archive as this particular photo shoot may have involved more than one magazine/publisher. Such things are sometimes recorded in unit ORBs as I suspect having to pose for the cameras was a bit of a nuisance at the time.

I had a large poster of a Mitchell on my bedroom wall when I was a teenager but can't recall what code it was - probably from Plaistow Pictorial's offering or a magazine pullout.

The photo is part of an article in the August 12th, 1943 issue pages 172 - 173

Problem solved, its RAF Somewhere! The other photos are also available on their website.

The IWM site has a few films of Mithchells but all coded "VO" and one location on them is definitely Blackbushe (Hartford Bridge Flats)
