There appears to be some noise about this on the Norfolk Broads forum.

Difficult to say if it is still a rumour or not. It is possible though. One of the posters mentioned a lookout in one of the buildings.

RAF Tempsford was designed by an illusionist (Jasper Maskelyne) to look like a disused airfield. When it was available in March 1941 Special Duties Squadron transferred from Newmarket Heath and 138 and 161 Squadrons formed. Used to supply resistance and drop/pick up agents.
