Can any of you chaps throw any light on this object/structure please? I am thinking it is something on the lines of some kind of radar, or covered aerial - but I accept I could be well off the mark. The photo dates from 1948. It obviously was , while in use, guarded as evidenced by the barbed wire fence. Dawlish Warren.

I think there is something similar visible in Scarborough Castle. I presumed it was some sort of DF building because it looked very like that standard "windmill" type.

The original image in post one is part of one of a series from Britain from Above

Isn't the building one of those Nissen Steel tents ?

I included the corner with the Nissen hut in it to give some idea of the scale, being as Nissen huts are a reasonably standard item. Nissen steel tents are something new to me, any links?

Thanks for the input so far, gents.

From my research into the air to ground firing range on the Warren I too found it was a pre-existing building, I think it was marked as "tower" on some charts, but was never able to positively identify the location of the markers shelter, which may have been a Nissen hut at that stage in the war. I think a target circle was still visible - just- in 1948.

The building does not appear on the PSG's Extended Defence of Britain overlay for Google Earth

In fairness to that esteemed groups efforts quite a few buildings are still missing, I say that as an observation not a criticism.
