Tracing Anti Aircraft Ordnance Depots (AAOD) I was led here by an entry in a 1950s Telephone Directory: Manchester Area
under Ordnance & R.E.M.E.....Dean Road, Hndfrth (Handforth) Wimslow 2257
Wilmslow was the telephone exchange for that area.
Using Google Earth '1945' view I see this:
This 'shed' measures around 400 meters in length (fronting what is now Welland Road)much too big to be dedicated as an AAOD yet, at the
junction with Dean Road is 'The Bungalow' associated with an AAOD. Shown on this map:
Map courtesy of Old Maps website:
The bungalow is not the usual 'L' shape associated with an AAOD.
Handforth was the home of a major RAF Equipment Depot 61 M.U which can be seen in the Google Earth view by tracking north east
about half a mile.
Was this building part of the RAF Depot and the AAOD colocated? If not, what was it.
Note that it is long-gone, demolished and overbuilt with housing.
