In the early 70s as pipelines were being laid across the country to deliver the fruits of North Sea gas, many airfields were used to store the thousands of pipes needed. I particularly remember huge stockpiles on places like North Killingholme and Spilsby. I am sure there were stockpiles at many more airfields.
I found this photo on a stall at Truckfest, showing such a stockpile and a fleet of BRS lorries engaged in moving them. Anyone know where the pic was taken?
