a recent posting on the Facebook Group "Christchurch History in Pictures" had this photo .
The photo by " Moss Christchurch" and on the back "Mum making aeroplane wings in 1914 war'. "
I believe we now know the approx location in Christchurch in Fairfield( a dead-end street). but what were they making (ie;type) and what was the company ....both premises and who were they subcontracted to?
Can't help with the type, but I remember witnessing a similar scene at RAE Farnborough in the late '70s; one of the workshops there was the 'fabric' shop now long gone.
A few months after I saw this, the RNHF Swordfish arrived for the annual 'Taranto Raid' commemeration.
It was pushed into the main hangar 'A'Shed (recently demolished) next to the old control tower for overnight storage but stayed longer than one night and when it came time to fly it back to Yeovilton, it emerged with what looked like a brand new set of wings!!
Now I wonder where it got those from?
