I won this photo on a well known internet auction site. It was advertised as 'airfield Bedford' I can't place it. Anyone know please?

Appears to be a post-war image judging from the diminished taxiways.
The two Fuzing Point Sheds in the bottom RH corner are a good clue.

Definitely; closed as an RAF station in '46 I would guess the runways were ripped up to be motorways in the mid '50s to early '60s

Yes, the use of disused airfield paving was a win/win for both landowners and motorway constructors. Ironic when you consider that hardcore for many airfield runways utilised structure rubble from the London blitz.

I wonder if some of that rubble still included bits of wallpaper and other decorations? I know our 1930s semi included reclaimed bricks for recently demolished (1936) 17th C houses at the bottom of our road, and traces of plaster and colour could still be seen.

According to 'Airfields of the Eighth', the main culprit was 'St Ives Sand and Gravel' later known as 'Amey Roadstone'.
