Identify an airfield

Hi Guys

A thread has trecently appeared on the PPRuNe board which includes an interesting photo of an unidentified airfield. I think the implication of the post suggests that the farm in the other photo is near the airfield?

The post reads

I have these old photos of RAF airfields and wonder if anyone can identify them. The farm picture says Watpit Farm ( (Cant read next word possibly something like T.... ...lowe???).

Can anyone throw any light on a possible location? Might it be Andover, Thruxton, Middle Wallop? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for that post, the first picture is amazing and fairly rare, showing a line up of early RAF Tomahawks and Mustang Is.
Read the suggestions with interest, the Twinwood Farm one is a good one but the farm building arn't quite the same, very similar though.
Middle Wallop is my favourite out of the current suggestions.

I think the background countryside looks too flat for Wallop.

Wouldn't be Clifton would it.

I think the key issue is the appearance of the soil/geology which clearly seems to be chalk? I don't know the conditions at Twinwood Farm but given that it is near to Bedford I am thinking that ity is not chalk?

Chalk? Tomahawks? Might it be Detling, on the chalky North Downs?
