Not alot to go on, but where is it?

Apologies. The size of the originally posted picture was such that all the lines of the wood panels on the door weren't visible and, on my monitor at least, was giving the illusion of many tall thin MNWV type letters.

As I said, it is a door to a Stores building, by the elbow of the seated man on the left is the post that acted as a door-stop, usually with a hook that contacted an eye-bolt that was screwed to the lower part of the door. The reason I think this is a store is that I cannot remember that type of door being on a barrack room, they had a door at either end, sometimes with a veranda, also, the windows were all the same, spaced at regular intervals. Finally, I think that the two NCOs are Flight Sargeants,

A much better picture, but still no idea of location. However, it is interesting that the NCO with the peaked cap is certainly a Flight Sergeant, as is the person sitting to his right.

I would suggest that although the location remains a mystery, there is a possible clue regarding the date it was taken insomuch as the forage capped Flight Sergeant has no medals, indicating that he wasn't serving during WW2. To reach his rank as a non aircrew senior NCO would have taken at least 10 years if not longer, so assuming he joined the RAF immediately after the war, the photograph cannot be earlier than the mid 1950's at best.

Then again, he could have been a very modest man who deliberately chose not to wear any! Heh Ho!

With regard to the date of the photo, I think that the forage cap was no longer issued at basic training after 1949, the majority of photos on the RAF National Service site that were taken 1950 onwards show airmen wearing a beret, and it could be that the Flt Sgt chose not to wear his medals, (they were on the uniform that was in the wash).

Its not the mid fifties. I did my square bashing at Bridgnorth in 1951 and we had berets.

If you look on the West Kirby website www.rafwka.co.uk/id27.htm
you will see that the last year that the recruits are wearing forage caps is 1948
in March 1949 there is a mixture of berets and forage caps.

After blowing up the pic a bit more I would say that it is not West Kirby Square bashing.
Most of the Erks are AC1's and there is also a few AC2's.
There are 2 Sgt's.
It looks more like a Flight picture for a Trade training.
