This item is ceramic and about 4" square.

2 edges opposite each other have a groove the other 2 don't.

This item came from a B-17 crash site so i'm hoping its related, but i'm not holding up much hope?

Could well be, what's the size Jerry?

Chock full of asbestos if that's what it is!

It is indeed a B-17 brake pad segment.
Shame one of the retaining clip grooves is broken, the Sally B team are always on the lookout for spares of these.

Many thanks chaps, another specific B-17 part located.

Al, it's about 4 inches square.

I'll keep a look out for more next weekend.
