Metal thing on top of a pillbox

The photo below is of a metal structure that was bolted on top of a WW2 pillbox. The top part originally pivoted where it met the base section but has rusted in its current position. The pillbox was on an embankment that surrounded the flat area of land that surround the Selsey/Manhood bombing and gunnery range. The pillbox would have pre-dated the range which may have opened in 1943.

I don't recognise the metal structure so I can't say if it was connected to the range or if it was military or farming related but has anyone seen anything like it in their travels?

Hard to think of an agricultural use, I cannot recall seeing anything similar. I notice you are using the past tense, has it been demolished?

I forgot to check if it was still there. As the whole area has changed and is now a partially flooded nature reserve I suspect it may have been removed for safety reasons. I'll check. The picture was taken prior to the work starting.
