This'll be interesting to see come to fruition.

I just hope they have more success with that lifting technique than the CIA did with the Glomar Explorer and submarine K-129 in the 70's!

Look forward to seeing the finished article in about 20 years time!! (Hope the RAFM don't leave it for eternity like their Halifax...)

More info here:

For the first time, I have found info on what is planned for it once it has surfaced. A tank of lemon juice at Cosford. Good luck to all concerned. I wonder will the public be allowed to view the preserving arrangements?

It will be great to see one of these restored, my Dad would have loved to see this even though he obviously hated them living in London throughout the Blitz. As Forestfan2 has said, I too just hope that it doesn't remain as discovered like the Halifax has. Though I suppose it would look a bit silly laying on it's back in the museum with it's wheels in the air.

The Dead got memorials, The living got time.

Many Do17 were brought down relatively intact onto British soil, one landed wheels up on Rochester airport (Southend Airport) yet, after inspection and evaluation they all went for scrap.

Are there any records of Dornier crashes? Think I have mentioned on here before that I have a piece of perspex from one, labelled by my father German from "Dornier". As my father was based at Wing I have always assumed that the Dornier must have crashed there or nearby.

'The Blitz then and Now' trilogy has day by day casualty information. I shall have a browse through my copies this evening and see if I can find Do 17 crashes in the Wing area. Probably 1940 when there was a lot of activity.
