Interesting that the maritime Shackletons had Royal Air Force on the side but IIRC 8 Sqn didnt. Nimrods didnt either.

The second picture is taken at RAF Leuchars, I believe.

MR Shacks had it because it originally said 'Royal Air Force Coastal Command' and when Strike Command was formed they just painted out the last 2 words but 8 Sqdn was formed after CC became part of Strike Command and Nimrods entered service after this too.
Well that's my excuse anyway!

Thats probably why. Interestingly the RAF HS 125s never had Royal Air Force on the side but all other transport aircraft did.
