Sorry, a bit late with this one as I've only just found out that it's on but on twice today on the PBS America Channel is Lancaster : Reunion Of Giants.
It's on shortly at 9.05 & repeated later this afternoon at 4.20
I already have this on DVD & can't recommend it enough. It's all about the VERAS visit to the UK & features much about the flight to get to the UK & all the troubles & drama that went with it as well as lots of great footage of the UK tour with the BBMF once in the UK.
It has been 50 years since two Avro Lancaster Bombers flew side by side. These marvels of mechanical engineering, part of a proud lineage that is credited with bringing an end to WWII, are now preparing for an epic mission to finally meet high above the English countryside. But making that reunion possible is a monumental task. In early August, The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Avro Lancaster will depart from Hamilton, Ontario to meet her British counterpart, the only other surviving flight worthy Lancaster Bomber, the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) Lancaster in England. It's a mission unlike any other this Lancaster has ever undertaken; flying thousands of miles across the ocean, requiring multiple landings on remote runways from Goosebay to Greenland to make it across the vast Atlantic Ocean, and a crew that will be on their own, far away from any mechanical support or facilities that keep the plane flying.
Well worth viewing if you have the PBS America Channel & you have the time to check it out later.

Fascinating programme. Recently watched the episode relating to space. Started with a look at Peenemünde today and then moved to sites in the USA. This is the the late Dr Gerald Bull's 16 inch HARP gun at Yuma Arizona:
Note, there are series of dense-black 'L' or 'V' shaped lines. One runs NNE from the gun, along the line of the road, the other (south of the gun) runs ESE. Wonder what they are. (If you scroll around this interesting place there are a lot of these lines).

One of my books re-read may times over and published in 1988 details the construction and operation of the German Paris Kanone used to shell Paris from a range of around 120 kms during WW1. The Forward to this book was written by Gerald Bull. Following on from the main subject is a second part to the book (under the same cover) describing Project Harp in particular the Barbados gun used for the hi-altitude research programme proper. The book is an English language translation from the original German history.
Re the L or V shaped lines, if I am looking at the same feature they appear to be regular lines of power poles (?) casting dense shadows in the strong desert sunlight.

I wondered about that but decided they were far too dense for that. In Bing however (despite an overall inferior picture) they are much less pronounced and could well be power poles.
