This lovely old man was in the artillery, they sent him on a course to learn about a gun, he arrived back at unit to find they had new types of guns. So back to take another course. On arrival at unit, low and behold they had been given Priest self propelled guns. So back on a gunners course. Now at last he arrived back at unit and blow him they were now airborne artillery in Gliders. You did not volunteer for gliders you were sent. So after two flights he said it was way too hairy for him and he wanted a posting out. That by then was not allowed but volunteering for the Para's that was ok. So off he went off to join the paras. He was loaded into a Dakota at Brize Norton and landed to the west of Ranville. I wish we & he could have carried on the conversation and found out what else he he had done but time was not on our sides.
Lovely pics. Wonder why the bloke singing is wearing his medals on the right and not the left?
Are family and close relatives allowed to wear the medals of their relation but only the right? My wife could wear her dad's medals. He was on HMS Serapis just off the beachs on the morning of 6th June 1944.
No Amount Of Evidence Will Ever Persuade An Idiot (probably not Mark Twain)
