When I first became an ATC assistant in 1969, EGUC was still assigned to Chilbolton and Manston was unique in being allocated EGMH for the civil side and EGUM for the military plus Kent Radar.
Farnborough acquired its second indicator in the early '90s wihen EGLF was allocated for civil traffic in addition to the EGUF used for MOD traffic, EGUF being cancelled after MOD flying moved to Boscombe.
RAE Bedford, now EGBF, was originally EGVW but was additionally allocated EGSV (now allocated to Old Buckenham) in anticipation of it becoming a freight terminal when MOD moved out; never happened of course.
I think Elstree changed from EGLE to EGTR in about '75, but I'm sure it had another code before EGLE.
Thinks: wonder why Northolt hasn't been allocated a civil indicator?
Pembrey airfield is allocated EGFP while the adjacent MOD range is allocated EGOP.
The 'EGR_s' are mostly allocated to oil or gas rigs in the North Sea.
EGYR is now allocated to RAF Muharraq, Bahrein; furthest easterly one?
There's a full current list of 'EG__' allocations in the IAIP available at www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php.html. Click on eAIP AIRAC 03/2020 and look at the list of Tables and Codes at GEN 2 in the left hand column.

I think Northolt hasnt been given a "civil" ICAO as the vast majority of its traffic is handled by the RAF, although IIRC there is a civil handling firm at Northolt. Its been kept quiet about Bahrain, I suppose its linked to HMS Jufair?

And best story I can tell about ICAO designators is one day getting a flight plan on a French civilian aircraft at Leuchars that we werent expecting. The plan was from Denham so I rang them to inquire. The pilot gave the plan to someone at Denham and they filed it without reading it. The aircrafts destination was in fact Liverpool! Pilot had for some reason thought Liverpools ICAO was EGQL.

Know the feeling, at Fairoaks (EGTF) we often got FPLs intended for Exeter (EGTE) and Elstree (EGTR), but that was just bad handwriting!

The official CAA list just says 'RAF Muharraq' which I know is in Bahrein 'cos years ago, our next door neighbour in Chesham, Bucks, was a steward in the mess there and he used to send us Christmas cards from there!
(Just as an aside, when he returned to the UK he was posted to JSSC/NDC Latimer which was local)

Heres a question. Why does the Falklands and the British Antarctic Territory have UK ICAO codes when all the other dependent territories dont?

Some others seem to have national codes. I wonder if it was just that the UK, USA etc were first to set up "airports" and just allocated national codes to them then as others followed , it was decided to use an Antarctica code?

Short cross country. Dundee is 1400m; ample for a 748.

Antarctica

There seems to be quite a mix of codes as far as I can tell, currently between assertions of future sovereignty and respect for the current Antarctic Treaty.

See
www.helis.com/database/gps/?c=AQ&t=X

for a non-exhaustive list ? (Just a chance that this might need a (free, no strings) login to display properly ?)

Flight plans can be filed for ANY flight irrespective of how short it might be; they file for the Loganair route from Westray to Papa Westray - 90 seconds elapsed time!
