The Shelter’s Door
To the Editor the Birmingham Gazette.
IN the Gazette of 11th inst. there was letter from Mr. A. E. Harris, of Bewdley, concerning the door of our Consol shelter.
We feel that the details the door arrangement on the shelter should be given as wide a publicity as possible to obviate this misunderstanding arising in the future.
The door is fixed on lift-off hinges and can be quite easily removed from the inside merely by sliding the door upwards. Also the door hinges are fixed to the shelter with bolts, and spanner is provided so that, the entire door and hinges can be pushed off from the inside.
A man-hole, also fixed with a bolt, is fitted on the other side of the shelter facing the door, and we think ample provision for escaping from the shelter has been provided.
