USAF rest and recuperation

The towersey pub is the Three Horseshoes, a few weeks ago I picked-up a couple of friends from a function at Towersey Manor. Had I known, I would have enquired. I checked-out Eynsham Hall for any commerative plaque six years ago, nothing !! Maybe now... Also Ebrington Manor a few weeks ago, nothing there either. There are still a few others that I travel near regularly, so will explore these when I can. I have a very good book called:- from Somewhere in England. By D.A. Lande. First published in America 1991. A section is dedicated to the R+R homes of the USAAF. There are 16 such homes listed.

It was so long ago that I was in there that it was probably named 'The Three Ox Shoes'!

Yes, the recurring list in different source references has 16 venues but not near Thame.

You're not far off with that, most people refer to it as the 'Orse Shoes anyway. Do you also remember the Four Horseshoes in Thame? Well thats long since been a private house. Thame's claim to fame is the Bee Gee's have lived there for years. Earlier this year?? they had a garden party with a Spitfire and Hurricane attendance. This was to raise funds for the Bomber Command Medal. Towersey's claim to fame is Radio Two's Ken Bruce lives there, has done for about two years now.
