It's not clear from descriptions how that worked. Presumably the Jeep was retained by some physical means and radio controlled?

Talking of Jeeps, the Willys type, I've seen a photo somewhere on the web of a gunnery range that consisted of a jeep that ran behind a sandbagged wall with some sort of rail to steer the jeep. The actual target was a painted aircraft on a sheet of wood/metal fixed to supports on the vehicle so it appeared above the sandbags.

Brief History:
a. During 1943, the U.S. Government leased land in Orange County, Florida, for use as the Pinecastle Jeep Range. The site was also known as the Tactical Demonstration Range, the Orlando Range, Pinecastle Range, Pinecastle Bombing Range and the Pinecastle Chemical Demonstration Range. The range was an off-post site of Pinecastle Army Air Field (AAF). Pinecastle AAF used the range as a gunnery and demonstration range.
All I can say is FUDS; a large number of bombing ranges, gunnery ranges listed here, US Army Corps of Engineers have surveyed the majority of Formerly Used Defense sites in the US and some of their territories. I am off arrow hunting!
