You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
Heliport Locations was created by Paul Francis
Anyone know the locations (NGRs) of the following heliports please? These had control towers and are not necessary airfields. I will add a few more in time but for now:
Southampton
Westland
Fleetlands

I presume that the Westland heliport you mention was also known as Battersea. It's still operational and now known as London Heliport. I am almost certain it is the on the same site. See UK AIP

Good point, I assumed Westland Heliport at their Yeovil factory.
Not sure I follow the question, surely these heliports are easy to locate with Google Earth?

I must admit I was looking at Westland near Yeovil too!
I assume the heliports are no longer around???

Well that's Fleetlands all right, but why is it in the middle of what appears to be a golf course! Golf Ball = instant FOD!

Southampton is more difficult. Flight magazine 1969 said it was close to the railway station and docks - and operated by 'Twyford Moors'.
Twyford Moors was around here . Their premises was near the Chestnut Avenue/ Nightingale Avenue junction. The heliport, which was operational in the 1970s, was 'behind the premises'.

Is Fleetlands still operational for Helicopters? I might have an earlier photo of the area, will check when I get home tonight. I don't recall the golf course.
Southampton is a new one to me. I assumed it was part of Eastleigh.
Out of interest do we class a heliport as a site with Customs facilities or merely a passenger carrying site. I assume hospital and police helipads are not classed as such.

The Navy don't mind that, they have a golf course at the end of, and surrounding, one of the thresholds at Culdrose - and they operate fast jets down there.
Fleetlands is still a thriving Navy/DARA helicopter base, mainly as a maintanance facility.
